The way humans communicate with each other is in constant evolution. Perhaps more than any other factor, technology has the most profound impact on communication.

Throughought history, spoken words evolved into written words, and written words evolved into printed words.  Letters became telegraphs, and telegraphs became telephone calls. Radio, television, and the Internet were each revolutions in their own right.

For decades, however, the idea of face-to-face communication over a telephone-like device was the staple of many imaginations. Many were enchanted by the concept of a "video call" as some sort of futuristic fantasy that would one day become a reality.

Video calling is indeed a reality today, although still not part of regular human communications. Nevertheless, great strides in technology are promising to bring video calling into the mainstream. FaceTime, a video calling application by Apple, Inc. is a leader in this movement.
